The old adage of “what you put in – you will get out” is especially so in affiliate marketing.

2. Are you willing and trainable?
There is a vast amount of information available that must be learnt and updated as the Internet changes at a rapid pace. Always try to keep abreast of what is happening. Difficult I know! You need the desire to learn and willingness to be mentored by your web merchant.

3. Willing to invest the time and effort to succeed?
You must have the fortitude to invest the time even thought you have yet to see any immediate results of your effort. Days, weeks and months may go by before you see any tangible and encouraging news, however, it is important for you to stick with your plan. Don’t “jump ship” for what may at first seem a better opportunity. File it for your next project.

4. Do you have discipline?
You have to have discipline…There is no boss directing your efforts so you must be responsible for the outcome. As said in item 1, you will only get out what you put in. You need a plan and stick to the plan.

5. Are you optimistic?
Optimism is another critical element. You will confront discouragements so it is better to know that up front. Be and think positive at all times. This will improve your business as well as your life. Yes, your friends and family will enjoy the new you.

6. Have perseverance?
Perseverance is what I consider one of the most central of all. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen a potentially successful (good plan, good product) internet marketer just give up when they were just turning or about to turn the corner. They become impatientand often times start something new only to be discouraged once again. Plan your actions, stick to the plan until you finished it if you ever want to succeed. Once implemented, “tweak” to success. Sorry, butin spite of all the hype out there…there is no silver bullet, only by your hard work, perseverance and determination will you be successful.

If you are new to the affiliate marketing business, which I assume you are or you wouldn’t be reading this? Choose a mature and honest affiliate program. Follow and use the tools provided by the merchant to get you started on a solid foundation. All merchants will provide at least the basics and the better ones providing a complete package as it is to their benefit that you succeed in your business.

Finally, keep the above set of guidelines visible, hang it on the wall beside or in front of your desk, keep it on top of the desk mess or wherever, but keep it visible and refer to it while you work on your program. If you can get the above set of guidelines organized and functioning to your favor you will find anything possible.
